 Thalle Construction is seeking a Surveyor to perform a variety of tasks associated with land surveying on projects located in Northeast NC.  NCDOT experience is a PLUS!  The surveyor will be responsible for the utilization of project controls, staking using a total station, GPS, and computer software in project assignments. In addition, this position will be responsible to assist with all aspects of project control including, but not limited to, field data collection, topographical surveys and construction stakeout. Compensation is based upon experience and motivation to excel. Ability to travel as needed.

Salary:        Based Upon Qualifications and Experience

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide surveying service which includes construction survey and layout on bridges, highways, foundations, and other related heavy civil projects NCDOT Experience Preferred 
  • Assists with survey computations and data collection including construction layout calculations, grade sheet computation, topographical/volume analysis and project datum conversion/transformation
  • Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and as-built surveys
  • Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain.
  • Conducting plan research and review
  • Assists Project Land Surveyor as needed
  • Perform field work associated with land surveying
  • CAD and drafting
  • Maintain and adhere to QA/QC procedures/note taking and maintaining office and field project material
  • Follow instructions and work orders from project managers
  • Field data collection, setting horizontal and vertical controls, topographical surveys and construction stakeout
  • Organize field notes and execute field staking
  • Utilizing conventional and GPS equipment along with an office knowledge of survey reduction and reduction and data creation utilizing AutoCAD
  • Proficient with DOT standards and code lists and all survey requirements
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Other Duties as assigned 

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experienceof land surveying or Bachelor’s degree in surveying, surveying technology, or other related science with 1 years’ experience
  • Professional Land Surveyor License in NC/Virginia Preferred 
  • Experience with AutoCAD / CarlsonRequired
  • Trimble & Topcon, Total Station Robotic Survey Equipment, and GPS machine control support
  • Ability to read and comprehend construction plans 
  • Heavy civil construction experience Required
  • Ability to build TIN / BIM maps Preferred
  • Knowledge of geological description principles and methods
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, legal codes and government regulations
  • Strong oral and written communication skill
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, focused, self-motivated, possess good work ethic and be a team player

 Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to work outdoors on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
