The Project Superintendent will report to the Project Manager and work closely with and support the operations team and interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. This position is located out of our office in Moncks Corner, South Carolina.

Job Title:  Project Superintendent

The Project Superintendent is a management position that oversees and is ultimately accountable for effectively coordinating the delivery of labor staffing, means and methods guidance, and equipment requests for field construction projects.  In addition, this position is responsible for overall guidance and oversight of construction quality control.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work and collaborate with Project Manager and General Superintendent to determine current labor staffing needs.
  • Plan and determine available and qualified internal labor (current employees) and ongoing external (new hire) labor needs and collaborate with human resources to source and fill according to project schedule.
  • Act as the initial field contact for means and methods assistance.
  • Collaborate with the General Superintendent to coordinate equipment, means and methods or other equipment division managers to ensure proper coordination & arrival of equipment to sites.
  • Fully accountable for site superintendent responsibilities on assigned large project(s).
  • Participate in the management of daily operational issues, including long-term planning and resource coordination, identifying, and improving procedures, project staffing, and ongoing project support.
  • Plan for and execute weekly field meetings to update field staff on current projects, bids, staffing, and equipment moves.
  • Assist the estimating department in the review of major and complex projects to be bid or negotiated.
  • Ensure company policies and operational procedures are understood, implemented, and consistently adhered to.
  • Coordinate operations team with corporate safety department to ensure all project safety needs are met and to assist in the adherence to company’s safety policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience of relevant experience in civil construction, including estimating, project management, equipment, scheduling, cost control, and personnel administration.
  • Prior landfill, utility, and excavation experience.
  • Ability to read and understand technical and statistical data, interpret construction drawings, architectural drawings, specifications, and legal documents.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Advanced knowledge of the heavy civil construction industry.
  • Ability to effectively mentor professional development of field management.
  • Demonstrated and proven ability to lead people and get results through others on complex, busy, challenging, and large scale heavy civil construction projects.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple priorities.
  • OSHA 10 and OSHA 30.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
